Do tattoo removals clear up the tattoo completely? Would there be any sign of a previous tattoo?

I’m not looking at my tattoo removing, Because if i did not think that i wanted it forever i wouldnt have gotten it in the first place but in 50 years time if i dont want to be an old man with a wrinkly skinned tattoo, what’s removing it like it?
